Police continue to investigate a hit-and-run in Niagara-on-the-Lake last week that left an 84-year-old cyclist in critical condition.

New images released by Niagara Regional Police show the bicycle the man was riding when he was hit, as well as broken pieces of the vehicle that were left behind at the scene.

Around 8:30 p.m. Thursday, officers on routine patrol discovered the 84-year-old man laying in the ditch on the side of East West Ln.

Police believe the man was struck from behind while he was riding his bike westbound on the north side of East West Ln., between Niagara Rd. and Concession 2 Rd.

Niagara EMS paramedics treated the man at the scene before he was airlifted to hospital where he remains in critical condition.

The driver of the vehicle that struck the man did not stop to check on him or report the incident to police, instead fleeing the scene.

Investigators believe the suspect vehicle is either an older model GMC Yukon, Chevrolet Suburban, or GMC Sierra pick-up truck, pewter metallic or silver in colour.

Police found two pieces of debris from the vehicle at the scene, including the entire passenger side mirror.

Detectives are asking the public for any information they have that may assist them with this investigation.

Autobody repair shops and auto parts dealers are asked to report any suspicious inquiries that may be related to this hit-and-run.
