Niagara police are urging the driver involved in a fatal hit and run collision in Lincoln to turn themselves in.

Emergency crews were called to the scene of a serious crash on the North Service Rd. between Sann Rd. North and Tufford Rd. North around 7:30 a.m. Sunday.

Police say a 51-year-old cyclist from Grimsby was found suffering from critical injuries.

Paramedics transported the man to a local hospital where he later died as a result of his injuries.

Investigators have determined the cyclist was struck by a vehicle that fled the scene. The car was last seen travelling westbound on the North Service Rd. toward Hamilton.

Police are asking for the public’s help in locating the driver.

He is described as white, in his thirties, roughly six-feet, with a heavy set build, and dark coloured hair. The man was wearing a grey jacket or sweater and a red checkered shirt.

The vehicle was a four-door sedan that has been described as grey, blue, or light green with dark tinted windows.

Police say the car will have heavy damage to the passenger side windshield with a hole in the glass near the roofline, a dented roof on the passenger side, as well as damage to the front bumper and hood.

Detectives say the driver was fully aware of the collision. They are urging him to contact legal counsel to plan a peaceful surrender as soon as possible.

Niagara police are also asking residents in Hamilton, Halton, and the Greater Toronto Area to be on the lookout for the damaged car due to the collision’s proximity to the QEW.

Anyone with information about this collision is asked to contact Niagara police or if you wish to remain anonymous, Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
