Niagara police releases R.I.D.E results for New Year’s Eve

Niagara police conducted ride spot checks and have stopped around 500 vehicles on New Year’s Eve, here are the results.

The ride spot checks on Dec. 31 took place in Welland and Niagara falls.

Officers say they stopped around 500 vehicles, and 12 drivers were required to provide a breathalyzer test, but all were free to drive away.

Police say they are pleased to see the community using designated drivers and transportation services to get home safely after drinking.

However, several passengers were found not wearing seatbelts and were given tickets.

Niagara police say Impaired driving remains the leading criminal offence causing death in Canada.

This initiative has been made possible, in part, as a result of grant funding from the Ministry of the Solicitor General as part of the Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere (R.I.D.E) program.
