Niagara police investigate gas station attempted robbery in Welland

Police are investigating after a man allegedly attempted to rob a gas station in the city of Welland last Monday night with a knife.

Officers responded to a call at an Esso Gas station at 9 p.m. at 1000 Ontario Road where they learned that a robbery had occurred earlier that evening.

Investigators learned the robbery took place just before 6:30 p.m. when a man had allegedly brandished a knife at an employee demanding cash from the register.

The suspect had allegedly left the store, after the employee refused.

Police are looking for a white man with gray or black hair and is described to have been wearing a green shirt pulled over his head and grey slip-on shoes. The man was also described to have been carrying a yellow reusable grocery bag.

Anyone with information is asked to contact police.
