Police are investigating after a 32-year-old man from Stoney Creek drowned in the Welland River in Niagara Falls late Sunday afternoon.
Emergency services responded to a possible drowning call at around 5 p.m. near Front Street.
Detectives say the man was swimming from a dock near Chippawa Creek when he slipped under the water and didn’t resurface.
Officers say service divers found the man’s body at around 9:15 p.m.
The department says they are investigating the circumstances around the drowning and do not suspect foul play.
There are signs posted around the area warning of strong currents.
Anyone with information about the man or of the incident is asked to contact police.
