Niagara police arrest man connected to Smithville homicide

Police have arrested a man Thursday in connection to the murder of 62-year-old Cathy Prosje that happened in April.

Officers arrested 42-year-old Joseph Villneff from Smithville and have charged him with first degree murder.

Detectives had determined that Villneff and Prosje had shared the home that her body was found in.

The investigation began in April when officers were called to a home in the area of Lindan Street and Alma Drive.

At the home police found a dead woman they identified to be Cathy Prosje.

Police confirmed with CHCH News that the both Villneff and Prosje are family relatives.

Villneff is being held in custody pending a bail hearing on Friday at a St. Catharines courthouse.
