Niagara police after 3 men suspected of torching Shawarma shop

First Published:

Niagara police are on the hunt for three men who they say tried to torch a restaurant in St. Catharines.

On Monday, the department released surveillance video from the night of Sept. 12 at 3:22 a.m. where two men can be seen approaching Castillo Shawarma on Lakeport Road with a jerrycan in hand.

The restaurant then goes up in flames, and the two men run away. They head down Lock Street and get into a dark four-door sedan being driven by a third man.

No one was inside the business during the attack, and police believe it was targeted.

The force says it believes the three men in the video were at a gas station shortly before the fire and are asking nearby businesses to check for surveillance footage.

Along with the video, police also published three suspect descriptions of the men and their getaway vehicle.

The first man is described as having light-coloured skin and a thin build. He was last spotted wearing a black jacket, black track pants, black running shoes, and a black mask with a hood on his head.

The second man is described as having tan-coloured skin and a thin build. Police say he is over six feet tall and was last seen wearing a gray jacket with black sleeves, black pants, black basketball shoes with gray and white soles, a black mask and had his hood up.

There are few details about the third man’s appearance, except that he was last seen wearing a light-coloured baseball cap, a long black sleeve top, black track pants, and flip-flop sandals.

Their getaway vehicle is described as being a four-door matte black or gray sedan with high-intensity discharge headlights. They add that the instrument panel on the interior of the vehicle was illuminated in blue lights.

The force said that there were witnesses and vehicles in the area at the time of the incident.

Anyone with information on the matter should contact the department.
