Niagara Falls neighbourhood evacuated after explosive devices found in home

A Niagara Falls neighbourhood was temporarily evacuated after police located “improvised explosives devices” in a home.

Niagara Police responded to a residence on Beaver Glen near Brookside Drive in the early afternoon of Sept. 4 to investigate the presence of suspicious activity.

Officers arrived shortly after 12:30 p.m. after receiving information from a Niagara-based social worker about the possible presence of an explosive device in the home. Due to the incident nearby residents were asked to leave their homes and the NRPS Explosive Disposal Unit (EDU) was called to the scene.

During the search officers located multiple devices of a “concerning nature”.

EDU officers examined the devices which were then removed to a safe location for further assessment. They were determined to be improvised explosive devices (IEDs) in varying stages of completeness and were made safe by the officers.

Nearby residents were allowed to return to their homes at 3 p.m.

At this time there have been no arrests and officers remain on scene.

This is an ongoing investigation by Niagara Police 2 District detectives. Anyone with information is asked to contact police at 905-688-4111, option three, extension 1009768.
