New York man, 19, arrested following assault in Niagara Falls

A 19-year-old man from New York has been arrested after an overnight assault in Niagara Falls, leaving one seriously injured on Saturday.

Niagara police responded to a fight/disturbance report just before 2:40 a.m. in the area of Ferry St. near Temperance Ave., in Niagara Falls.

Upon police arrival, a 42-year-old man was found suffering from significant injuries on his upper torso.

Officers say the victim was assessed at the scene by paramedics before being transported to a trauma centre for advanced medical care.

The injury has since been determined to be non-life threatening and the victim is listed as being in stable condition.

Witnesses on-scene told police the suspect fled the area on foot eastbound toward Stanley Ave.

Police located the suspect around 200 metres away from the scene and placed him under arrest.

Jesse Weichmann, 19, of Bliss, New York, has been arrested and charged with one count of aggravated assault.

Weichmann was held for a virtual bail hearing on Saturday at a Hamilton courthouse.
