New Pier 8 design

Hamilton’s west harbour will undergo a major transformation. A developer is paying the city more than $40 million for the Pier 8 land, which is mostly empty right now.
Bruce Kuwabara plan for Pier 8 includes almost 1300 condos in 20 separate buildings. 65 of those units will be through Habitat for Humanity, fulfilling the demand for affordable housing. It will also include commercial space, retail, restaurants and a fresh food market.
40% of the land is public space, including a new waterfront promenade called “Hammer City”.
Construction will start sometime next year. The developer will pay the city at least $40 million between now and 2025 to buy Pier 8. It will be bought in blocks and pay market value so that number could be higher. Once the buildings are complete the developer will pay the city one percent of the gross revenue.
