Halton health care has opened the doors to their new state-of-the-art, $2.7 billion hospital and Oakville Trafalgar Memorial invited CHCH inside for a look around.

The 1.6 million square foot facility features over 450 in-patient beds and a full range of services from maternal and childcare to critical care and emergency services. The hospital also features infection-prevention measures, including 80% single-patient rooms. The building’s cafeteria offers 400 indoor seats and 60 outdoor.

We spoke to the CEO of Halton healthcare, Denise Hardenne who says the hospital will care for the community now and well into the future.

“Ten years of planning, four years of construction, four months of training and orientation and it all came together yesterday with the transfer of 273 patients from our legacy site so it feels pretty fantastic and it’s been really rewarding to see the reaction from patients and their families as they come into the facility.”

It took more than 10 hours and 280 staff, physicians and volunteers to move all of the patients from the legacy hospital. All services, including the emergency department have been transferred over to the new facility. The old building is now closed.
