New details emerge in QEW road rage crash

OPP have new information that they hope could lead to the capture of the suspected driver they say showed signs of road rage that resulted in the death of a 22-year old Niagara Falls woman over the weekend.
On Jan. 27, Nicole Turcotte was a passenger in a small sedan heading Toronto-bound on the QEW by Cawthra when tragedy struck.
“An activity like a brake check where the driver hit the brakes and slowed traffic down behind him for some sort of street justice or trying to make a point of some kind.” Kerry Schmidt OPP.
OPP say Turcotte’s car, the fourth in a chain of vehicles travelling at regular highway speeds, was forced to slam on their brakes after what’s believed to be a newer Honda Civic with a licence plate starting with ‘C E’ merged into the lane and quickly slowed down. They then say a pickup truck rear-ended Turcotte’s car, sending it crashing forward creating a chain reaction. Turcotte was later pronounced dead in hospital, her 19-year old friend is still in serious condition. The suspected vehicle escaped via the West Mall exit unscathed.
OPP are also looking for one big witness.
“There was also a transport truck hauling a trailer that was in the middle lane that was right next to the vehicles when the collision occurred. That driver would have had a good vantage point to what happened.”
While police continue their search for the driver they say is responsible for starting this chain reaction, when asked whether the driver of the pickup truck that rear-ended Turcotte’s car would be charged, police say the investigation is on-going.
