MPs return to Ottawa to discuss cost of living, inflation

Members of Parliament are returning to the House of Commons Monday to begin a new year in federal politics.

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has promised to focus on cost of living and additional support during the anticipated economic decline that would not increase inflation.

However, the Trudeau government has other possible costly priorities to consider as it prepares its legislative plan and spring budget, which includes a supply and confidence agreement made with the NDP.

Last Wednesday, Trudeau said a meeting will be held between Canada’s premiers on Feb. 7 to negotiate a new deal for health-care funding.

NDP Leader Jagmeet Singh says he plans to call on the House of Commons to hold an urgent debate regarding health-care privatization.

On the other hand, Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre will target the government to reduce and control its spending.
