Mortdecai is a comedic crime film based on the series of books by Kyril Bonfiglioli, directed by David Keopp (Premium Rush, Secret Window). Johnny Depp stars as the titular art dealer with Gwyneth Paltrow, Ewan McGregor, Olivia Munn, Jonny Pasvolsky, Jeff Goldblum, and Paul Bettany supporting.
Juggling some angry Russians, the British Mi5, his impossibly leggy wife and an international terrorist, debonair art dealer and part time rogue Charlie Mortdecai (Johnny Depp) traverses the globe armed only with his good looks and special charm in a race to recover a stolen painting rumored to contain the code to a lost bank account filled with Nazi gold.
When Depp first read the Mortdecai script, he immediately contacted his friend and former collaborator Keopp to see if he would be interested in tackling the project with him. “I can’t say enough good things about David Koepp,” Depp says. “I have loved him since we did a film called Secret Window years ago. It was not a comedy but we were able to incorporate a lot of humor into it, which is part and parcel of what David does as a writer and a director. He had a vision for this movie and he created an atmosphere where the actors could try anything.”
Mortdecai is rated 14A.
