Blood clots can be fatal but early treatment can reduce the risks significantly. Health officials have dedicated today as “World Thrombosis Day” in an effort to make people more aware.

An information booth was set up at St. Joe’s in downtown Hamilton on Thursday.
There healthcare officials talked in detail about “Thrombosis” which is when a blood clot forms inside a blood vessel, which can be harmless, but it can also be very dangerous.

Age is an important risk factor for Thrombosis, at an age of about 25 your risk of a blood clot is about one in ten thousand per year, and when you get to 65 it’s about one in one thousand a year.
