Ontario PC Leader Tim Hudak is attacking the Liberals over their lack of spending oversight at Woodbine Race Track. The Globe and Mail has reported that the “not for profit” racetrack paid its CEO $1-million while handing out yearly bonuses of $28,000 to management. The Globe also learned that the executive salaries and incentives were key factors in the McGuinty government’s move to kill the slots program at tracks across the province, putting thousands of people out of work: “It’s criminal that 60,000 horsemen are being forced to pay the price with unemployment because the Liberals failed to keep their eye on the ball when it comes to these expenses.”
Questions about governance and spending at ontario race tracks were first raised in a report commissioned by the liberal government back in 2008.
