Women and high protein diets

Low-carb, high protein diets may cause health problems in women.

A study of over 40,000 women finds those who regularly eat an Atkins-type diet are 28% more likely to develop cardiovascular disease than those who do not.

Researchers say while the actual numbers are small, they’re still a concern because so many young women are exposed to these diets.

Experts say women should stick with plant-based proteins and not cut out complex carbohydrates like fruits and vegetables.
