HAPPENING NOW:
Weight loss and hormone
Post-menopausal women who lose weight can significantly lower their risk for breast cancer.
Researchers studied more than 400 overweight or obese post-menopausal women.
They found those assigned to a diet and exercise program, or those who only dieted, lost about ten percent of their starting weight.
They also had significantly lower levels of hormones that are associated with breast cancer.
Experts say that could lead to a 25% to 50% reduction in their risk for the disease.
