Health Canada has issued a health advisory for a virus that’s causing severe respiratory distress in children.

The warning for Enterovirus D68 comes after Alberta and several other provinces confirmed cases of it. It’s also suspected of infecting and hospitalizing hundreds of children in the United States.

Last weekend Windsor regional hospital began restricting visitor access to its pediatric unit.

Symptoms include fever, runny nose, sneezing and cough, as well as muscle aches. Children with asthma are particularly vunerable to it.
