HAPPENING NOW:
Vitamin D good for bones
A new study says high doses of vitamin D can help strengthen your bones.
The research shows the sunshine vitamin can lower bone fracture risk, but only if it’s taken in very large amounts.
More than 30,000 people over 64 years old took part in the trial and took 800 units of vitamin D each day.
At the end, their risk of hip fracture was lowered by 30%.
The study shows taking less than 800 units each day has no effect on bone-fracture risk.
People can easily get vitamin D from fortified foods and sunlight.
