Travel tips for fully vaccinated Canadians
Last week, the federal government quietly changed the rules making way for fully vaccinated Canadians to return to international travel.
Heather Greenwood Davis joined the Morning Live team Thursday with some tips on what you need to know and where you should be heading in the weeks ahead.
She noted the QR code that is available in Ontario is also used in Europe for proof of vaccination. However, the bad news is you still need to think about COVID-19 tests and the costs if you’re planning a trip.
“The acceptable government mandated molecular test that you need within 72 hours of arrival back in Canada can be as much as $250 abroad,” said Davis. “If you’re travelling with your family, that’s going to add up quickly.”
Davis said preparation is key to making travel easier. Understanding the rules of where you are going will make it clear what you need to have on you at all times- like a QR code, a mask, a testing kit and more.
Davis recommends a certain spot to consider travelling to.
“I went to Switzerland and spent just over a week hopping trains and trams and falling love with the country,” said Davis. “You can go now- Switzerland is open to fully vaccinated travelers with no testing required when you enter.”
The city of Vevey stole Davis’ heart. She said it had great people, delicious food and gorgeous waterfront walking. She compared it to a luxurious riviera.
The new Swiss Covid Certificate has been launched, which is your proof of vaccination access to all indoor events, venues and hotels. The application for the certificate costs about $40 Canadian and is done online. Mixed vaccinations are also accepted.
