Toyota recalls vehicles over floor mats

Share this story...

Another setback for Toyota, as it is forced to recall two million vehicles across North America — nearly 150 thousand of them in Canada.

The issue: carpet and floor mats that could jam gas pedals. The design of the mats is similar to those in models recalled in late 2009.

The newly recalled models include:

  • -397,000 2004-2006 & early 2007 Highlander and Highlander Hvs;
  • -372,000 2004-2006 & early 2007 Lexus RX 330, RX 350, and RX 400h vehicles;
  • -20,000 2006 & early 2007 GS 300 and GS 350 all-wheel drive vehicles.

The carmaker has also expanded a recall announced in November to include:

  • -761,000 2006-2010 RAV4s;
  • -603,000 2003-2009 4Runners;
  • -17,000 2008-2011 Lexus LX 570s.

Toyota has recalled more than 14 million cars in the last two years.
The recall statement on the company’s website goes into detail about the defects, and has a link so owners can check if their vehicle is part of the recall.
