Sudden cardiac death among young athletes is rare, but when it happens there’s often a big outcry for mandatory heart exams for them.

But doctors at Stanford University say that may not solve the problem.

Researchers had more than fifty pediatric cardiologists look at heart exams from healthy and unhealthy athletes, and they accurately diagnosed heart conditions just 67% of the time.

Most experts recommend young athletes have a thorough exam every two years.
