HAPPENING NOW:

Study on the use of stents

We learned earlier this week about Rosie O’Donnell having a stent inserted to open up a blocked artery after having a heart attack.

But it turns out stents alone might not be the best option.

In a Swedish study of a thousand heart attack patients, half received a bare metal stent while the other half received a stent that released medicine.

Patients who got the drug-emitting stent had fewer heart problems a year after surgery.
