Students at Hamilton’s St. Joseph’s Elementary School got a rare treat this morning, as Buckets Blakes from the Harlem Globetrotters stopped by to talk to students about the importance of maintaining a healthy lifestyle. The basketball star was also on hand, as FirstOntario Credit Union presented a cheque to REACH and Hamilton Taste Buds for $250 000, to help ensure students start their day off with a nutritious meal.

Over the past two years, FirstOntario has invested half a million dollars into the student nutrition program, providing 78 000 students with access to healthy food and snacks. And with today’s cheque presentation, that number grows to $750 000 total.

If you want to see more of Buckets Blakes, he and the rest of the Harlem Globetrotters will make their way to FirstOntario centre on Friday.
