Smoking and women’s heart risks
Just one cigarette a day may increase a woman’s risk of a fatal heart attack.
A new study of over 100,000 women found those who smoked one to 14 cigarettes a day had almost double the risk of sudden cardiac death compared to non-smokers.
Smoking more than 25 cigarettes a day more than tripled their chances of a fatal heart attack.
The study also found women who quit reduced and eventually eliminated their risk after 15 years of not smoking.
