HAPPENING NOW:

Smoking and absenteeism

Children living with a smoker miss more days of school than those in smoke-free homes.

Researchers say these children also have higher rates of respiratory illnesses.

Of the more than 3,000 children in this study, those living with one smoker were absent an average of one more day a year; while children living with two or more smokers missed one and a half more days.
