Some shocking news tonight about the health of Toronto Mayor Rob Ford. He’s been admitted to hospital after doctors found what they believe is a tumour in his stomach.

It led to a brief news conference this evening where the President of the Humber River Hospital and Doug Ford gave an update on the situation. Rob Ford did not appear. His brother says Ford has been dealing with severe stomach pains for a few months now. But it was while the two were having breakfast this morning that Ford was in so much pain that he went to his doctor. The doctor then sent him to the hospital for further testing — and a subsequent CT scan found what doctors believe is a tumour.

Doug Ford, Rob Ford’s brother: “It saddens me that I have to be here today. Rob is in good spirits and just wanted to thank all the well wishers.”

Dr. Rueben Devlin, Humber River Hospital: “It wasn’t a small tumour. But the size is not as relevant as what it is. We need to determine exactly what type of tumour it is. Then we can decide on what treatment is required.”

The hospital expects to have a better idea as to what they are dealing with by the end of the week. At that point, the treatment options will be considered. Doug Ford wouldn’t comment on what this will mean to his brother`s campaign for re-election — or if he may have to drop out. If that happens and Doug decides to take his brother’s place, the deadline for that is Friday.
