It has been a rough couple of weeks for Research In Motion.

But Tuesday afternoon, RIM Co-CEO Jim Balsillie will stand up at the annual software developers conference and predict a turnaround in the company’s fortunes.

In an interview with the Globe and Mail, Balsillie said he was “certain” of success and predicted that observers will be blown away by the slew of announcements RIM plans to make.

Earlier, Co-CEO Mike Lazaridis pulled back the curtain on a new name for its next-generation operating system, BBX.

BBX is reported to combine the best qualities of RIM’s older BlackBerry operating system and its QNX platform, which powers the PlayBook tablet.

The company is also expected to unveil of a prototype “superphone” called the BlackBerry Colt.
