HAPPENING NOW:
Removing polyps
A new study supports removing suspicious polyps during routine colonoscopies.
A group of doctors reviewed mortality data on more than 2,600 patients who had pre-cancerous polyps taken out during their colonoscopy.
Some were followed for 23 years.
Researchers found that even removing polyps that had not advanced to a cancerous stage, reduced the death rate from colon cancer by 50%.
