Pneumonia can be common after heart surgery

A study of over 5,000 patients reveals pneumonia is the most common infection after heart surgery.

Infections of the intestines, bloodstream and surgical incision sites were the next most common complications.

Researchers were also surprised to find that most infections occur about two weeks after surgery, when patients have been discharged from the hospital.
