Oakville free parking considered

Oakville Mayor Rob Burton wants to bring free parking to a flagging downtown core, in the hopes that more people will begin to shop there again.

The mayor wants to bring the proposal before the next council meeting on the 28th, although he may be mentioning at committee as early as Tuesday. But he’s been getting pressure from businesses downtown and in Kerr Village and in a letter to BIA members he writes that he wants free parking downtown and on Kerr from now to 2017, when construction along Oakville’s main downtown route, Lakeshore Road, is due to be completed.
