No longer Maple Leaf Gardens

Maple Leaf Sports and Entertainment (MLSE) says Maple Leaf Gardens no longer exists.

The former owner of the storied rink is seeking an injunction against Loblaw and Ryerson University, the current co-owners of the building, demanding that Ryerson stop calling the site by its historic name.

MLSE is also concerned that Ryerson could host concerts there once the building is redeveloped.

MLSE says it sold the arena to Loblaw at a discount, with the condition that it not compete for events that could be hosted at the Air Canada Centre.

Loblaw later made a deal with Ryerson to build a new rink above its planned grocery store.
