HAPPENING NOW:
Nicotine patch and pregnancy
Nicotine patches don’t seem to help pregnant women trying to quit smoking.
Half of the pregnant women in a U.K. study were given nicotine patches for eight weeks the others were given a placebo.
Researchers found very few women kept up with treatment; and of those who did, the patch didn’t increase the chance they’d quit.
Experts say pregnant women should try stress management as a quit strategy, or enroll in social media programs that send supportive messages to keep them motivated.
