HAPPENING NOW:

Making cancer cells glow

Japanese researchers are working on making cancer cells glow so they can identify hard to detect tumors.

Scientists are focusing on an enzyme called GGT that appears on the surface of cancer cells.

They developed a reagent that glows green when it comes into contact with the enzyme.

They tested it on mice with implanted tumours and within a minute were able to see the glowing of tumours less than one millimeter in size with the naked eye.
