HAPPENING NOW:
Macular degeneration drug study
Researchers in Toronto and Hamilton say two drugs to treat age-related macular degeneration do not put patients at a higher risk for heart attack or stroke.
The study looked at people taking small doses of Avastin and Lucentis for their eyes.
The drugs have been known to increase the risk of heart attack and stroke if taken intra-venously for cancer.
Experts say that’s not the case when the drugs are injected into the eye.
