A new study out of Hamilton’s McMaster University says less than half of Canadians are exercising to cope with stress.

The data of nearly 40,000 Canadians 15 or over suggests just 40 per cent of us work out frustrations at the gym or by lacing up for a jog. Stress-busting solutions that were more preferred were problem solving, trying to relax, talking to others and “blaming one’s self.”

Those surveyed who did turn to exercise tended to be women, younger and single, and were less likely to cope with stress by using alcohol or drugs.
