Literacy in Ontario schools

Ontario students in grades three and six are making strong gains when it comes to reading and writing, but not in math.

Almost three quarters of grade six students who took standardized literacy tests passed this year.

73% of grade three students now meet writing standards.

But results remained pretty much the same when it came to math.

By grade nine, the majority of students don’t meet the standards for applied math.
