Now that the holiday season is over many people are starting their new years resolutions. For some that means adopting a healthier lifestyle. Over the weekend Liberal MP and former TV personality Seamus O’Regan announced that he has entered rehab and this happens to be the busiest time of year to try and get into a treatment program.

The Christmas holidays are especially hard for those addicted to drugs or alcohol. “That whole mentality is everyone is celebrating so for those with addiction issues see this as an opportunity to excessively use and fit right in because they are usually doing that all year round.”

January and February are the busiest time of year for addiction programs and it can take 6 to 8 weeks to get into an OHIP funded facility and in some cases there is a 2 year wait. There is the option to choose a private centre with no wait time, which can cost about $450 a day.
