Hamilton’s Juravinski Cancer Centre is back to operating at full capacity, one week after a burst pipe caused major flood damage to the hospital.
The water severely damaged Juravinski’s chemotherapy suite and pharmacy preparation area forcing the cancellation of hundreds of appointments. By Monday, the cancer centre was again operating at 100 per cent capacity despite reduced space in its chemotherapy suite. Juravinski normally treats about 800 patients a day.
Meanwhile, the emergency department at the St. Joseph’s Charlton Campus is open again for all patients. Ambulances were allowed to return to the hospital as of 10 Monday night, following the flood last week from a water line break. Four of 12 affected operating rooms have also re-opened, with hopes of having 10 open in the next few days. But overall, things aren’t expected to be back to normal for another week.
