Joint replacement surgery risks

There could be a link between knee and hip replacement surgeries, and heart attacks in older patients.

Researchers find the chances of a heart attack are highest in the first two weeks after surgery, but a smaller risk remains for up to six weeks for those who get hip replacements.

This association is strongest for people over 80 years old.

Researchers also found there is no increased chance of heart attack for people under 60.
