Job axe falls at Tim Hortons HQ

Hundreds of workers at Tim Hortons head office in Oakville got grim news today.
The vice-president of corporate affairs for Tim Hortons issued a statement saying difficult but necessary decisions were made today. It also goes on to say some of the employees have been given opportunities for new roles and promotions.
This morning security guards could be seen outside the Tim Hortons headquarters, and people were seen coming out with white envelopes. These cuts come six weeks after the deal with Burger King was finalized.
At that time, Marvin Ryder from the DeGroote School of Business spoke with CHCH News and predicted this would happen.
“Other people who would be worried is the staff. If you merge two large companies like this you don’t need two I.T. Departments or accounting departments. There could be, could be some job losses in those. We expect to hear those in the first six months of 2015.”
CHCH’s Lisa Hepfner is following this story and will have the full details tonight on the Evening News at 6.
