HAPPENING NOW:
Impact of mammograms lessened in study
A study in Sweden finds mammograms have little, if any, impact on deaths associated with breast cancer.
Researchers say there’s been no pronounced decrease in breast cancer deaths after mammograms were introduced in the 1970s.
The study’s lead researcher says information given to women on mammograms should better reflect the uncertainty about the effectiveness of the test, and underline the risk of over diagnosis and over treatment.
