HAPPENING NOW:

IBS and the western diet

A western-style diet may be triggering cases of irritable bowel disease in people who are genetically prone to the condition.

A new study in mice reveals concentrated milk fat, which is common in processed foods, can trigger changes in gut bacteria.

That change causes the production harmful bacteria that causes the immune system to damage stomach tissue, and once the process starts, it is difficult to stop.

This only happened in mice that had a genetic risk for gastrointestinal problems.
