How women can master their emotions and communicate fearlessly

A leadership expert says traditional approaches to success such as hustling, grinding or doing more are ineffective and burning out women.
In her new book The Emotionally Intelligent Woman, Master Your Emotions, Communicate Fearlessly and Lead With Confidence, author Shyamala Kiru provides alternative strategies for women to achieve what they want.
“There is a shift within our culture and space where we’re really beginning to embrace the importance of authenticity, vulnerability and an ability to show up powerfully with your emotions,” she said in an interview on Morning Live Wednesday.
Kiru, who is also the founder and CEO of the EQ Code Training Labs, shared three ways to use your emotions in order to become a better leader.
Emotional Mastery
The first step is to master your emotions, she said.
“That’s learning how to be aware of your emotions, being able to regulate those emotions and use your emotions as information that allows you to navigate the context and different spaces that you’re entering into,” Kiru said.
Fearless Communication
The next strategy is to learn how to communicate with ease regardless of the situation.
“It’s the ability to ask for what we need without being afraid of the outcome or without being driven by the outcome,” she said.
Lead with Confidence
The final tool she shared is to lead with confidence.
“It’s the ability to make decisions that are aligned with our values rather than aligning our decisions with other people’s expectations of us,” Kiru said.
