How to rise above social media negativity and love yourself

Though it can be used for good, it’s no secret that with social media, negativity and unwanted opinions are part of the process. Body confidence advocate Sarah Nicole Landry joined us to share her tips on how she rises above that negativity and continues to be her bold self.
Landry says people’s lack of self love is not new with social media. She says social media is a new medium to challenge your self image. For her, self love is about knowing yourself and what makes you feel good.
“I talk to my kids the same way I would talk about making relationships at school,” said Landry. “Being very cognizant of when things aren’t feeling good and being able to create healthy boundaries.”
She says she can’t control exactly what her kids do on social media and in life, but she can teach them tools to develop self love. She says it is important to create a culture at home where there is no talk of things like diet culture or negative body image. Instead she focuses on understanding that we are more than our bodies and what we look like.
Landry says it is difficult to avoid negativity in the world and on social media, but self love and confidence is about facing the negativity.
“I, as a person, sidelined myself from doing a lot of really great things with my life because I felt like iI wasn’t worthy of it,” said Landry. “-everybody is going to have something to say but that doesn’t mean they need to be writing the story for you. Ultimately, you are the narrator, creator and author of your own life.”
Sarah Nicole Landry has recently partnered with the Bodacious wine label. The collaboration was part of the brand’s new #KeepCrushingIt campaign.
