HAPPENING NOW:

HIV in Taiwan transplants

One of Taiwan’s most regarded hospitals has transplanted organs from an HIV carrier into five patients.

An official for the National Taiwan University Hospital says that the five people are now being treated with anti-aids drugs.

In a posting on its website, the hospital said the mistake occurred because the information on the test results was given over the telephone and mis-heard by the nurse.

The information was not double-checked, as required by standard operating procedures.
