Heat illness in young athletes

Even as the summer winds down, doctors are still reminding parents and coaches to look for signs of heat illness in young athletes.

Drink plenty of water before practices, and small amounts of sports drinks may be necessary for long practices.

Signs of a heat illness include dizziness, dry mouth, nausea, headache and muscle weakness.

Doctors say people experiencing these symptoms need to cool down quickly.

Signs of a more severe form include trouble breathing, fainting and disorientation.
