HAPPENING NOW:

Health minister: not enough people getting flu shot

Hospitals across the province have been forced to work together and transfer patients between them to deal with this year’s spike in flu cases.

In London, health care officials say emergency room wait lines are too long, and there aren’t enough beds. They are considering the cancellation of some surgeries and are directing patients to other areas.

Health Minister Deb Matthews says flu season is only just beginning. “We can certainly expect a second wave. The big message I want to get out is, it’s not too late to get your flu shot.”

“This is a bad flu, people who get it are very very ill and we’ve got plenty of vaccine for free, it’s easy to get and I just urge people to get it.”

Health experts say this year’s vaccine is a particularly good match to the current virus.
