The Ontario Health Coalition is conducting a vote to stop the government’s plan to cut local public hospitals and contract clinical services out to private clinics. OHC executive director Natalie Mehra believes privatization of hospital services will be very expensive for patients.
“Not just some, but most, actually virtually all of the private clinics that exist in Canada bill the public health system, and they charge extra user fees too, they extra-bill patients on top for services.”
Mehra continued to say the privatized system would mirror American health care where a procedure like an MRI could potentially cost a patient $1,000. There will be an Ontario-wide community vote on April 5th about the issue.
